An open academy for the players by the players


History and Evolution of SDV TT Academy.
There was an emerging thought among the well-wishers of the Table Tennis game, that there was a need for a well organisedcentre for the training of budding talents in the town of Alappuzha.They were individually and collectively in search of an ideal centre that could transform the thought to reality. A formal approach was initiated by the well-wishers, Sri.P.K.Venkitraman, Sri.Bobby Joseph, Sri.George K John, Sri.Rony Mathew, Sri.MuraliKaimal, Sri.Jacob John, Sri.RamakrishnaKhandelwal, Sri.Akilesh S, Sri.Arun George, Sri.Ashok George, Sri.PrasanthKhandewal and others during the month of Dec 2015 through Sri.R.Krishnan,Secretary of SDV Managing Committee. With the Managing Committee packed with sports lovers and sports persons themselves, the task became easier and the need for a state of art coaching facility for TableTennis at Alleppey was recognised and action taken for formation of SDV Table Tennis Academy, a trust registered under the Travancore Cochin Literary Scientific and Charitable Societies Registration Act 1955 The management of SDV was very supportive and took the decision and constructed a roof top covered hall of about 6000 sq. ft.and dedicated the same to the academy.

The Academy

There are more than 120 emerging & experienced players regularly practicing in the academy and 90 % of them are below the age of 12 yrs. SDV has the largest table tennis playing facility in Kerala and probably in India spread over a 14 table facility and has 6 coaches. There are specialized table tennis tables for young kids below 6yrs to cater to specialised table tennis” Baby Pong” program for kids between 4-6 years. It was a great honor for the table tennis fraternity to have the Finance Minister of the state Dr. T. M. Thomas Isaac to inaugurate the SDV Table Tennis Academy on 12th June 2016 and the function was made creamier by the presence of Sri. S. Ramanujan, former table tennis state champion who bagged the same for nine times. We were encouraged by the words of motivation given to us by the Honorable Minister and he promised to extend all support of the government for similar facilities in Kerala. SDV TT Academy is proud to have set a worthy example by dedicated and united work of all the members coupled with the blessing of Almighty.

• To prepare young generation to win medals in National & International Level Championships.
• To Prepare Olympians under the Project “Top Spin to Olympics 2024”.
• To produce at least Five National Champions in the next five years.
• To provide the best training facility to kids by inviting Indian and Foreign Coaches and Players.
• To improve the infrastructure facility for players, opening an exclusive Sports Physical & Mental Fitness Centre for the Players.
• To have exchange Programs from the Coaching Academies within and outside the country.
• To promote and train Table tennis faculty for the development of table tennis all over India.

Future Projects
1) Top Spin to Olympics 2024
S D V Table Tennis Academy’s ambitious program is to mould sports persons to get qualified for the 2024 Olympics by imparting intense training programs. The Project Top Spin to Olympics 2024 is a part of our bright and creative vision for the future. Through this project long term planning is undertaken to develop Olympians who can win medals for the country in the 2024 Olympics. To achieve this aim, plans are formulated to give rigorous training to selected players by inviting foreign and Indian coaches and also by sending selected players to various training centers inside & outside the country.
2) Project Garuda
• To promote the game of table tennis all over the district.
• To develop the game of table tennis in Schools & Colleges.
• To facilitate and assist table tennis coaching in various clubs and academies.
• To give financial aid to promising players.


A remarkable achievement by the team work of SDVians is the bagging of bronze medal in Youth Table Tennis National Championship held at Vadodara, Gujarat. The team comprised of only SDVians, and they were Maria Rony, Seraha Jacob,Gia Anna George and Aswani R.

Tarun Philip and AnuvindhaSedumadavan of our academy won gold and bronze medals respectively in CBSE National tournament held at Vadodara.

After a year of winning bronze medal in national games, again the duo, Seraha Jacob and Maria Ronywon bronze medal in senior doubles category in the recently concluded Senior Nationals held at Gurgaon, Haryana.
